A Backyard Audio Upgrade
That Delivered on Performance -
and Peace of Mind
A client reached out after several seasons with a Paradigm Garden Oasis system installed by another provider. While the setup included 9 GO6 satellite speakers and 2 GO12SW subwoofers, it wasn’t delivering the full, immersive sound he had envisioned for his backyard. More concerning, one of the subwoofers had already suffered water damage—twice—requiring two warranty replacements in just two years.
He was ready for a step up in both sound quality and reliability.
To help him make an informed decision, we brought over a demo kit with two Coastal Source 10.0 3-Way Bollards and set them up right in his yard. He was able to listen to them in his actual landscape—between a retaining wall and a fence—and even got in the pool to hear how the sound traveled across the water.
The difference was obvious.
We upgraded his system to:
• (4) Coastal Source 10.0 3-Way Bollard Speakers
• (2) Coastal Source 18.0 Subwoofers
• (2) CRS2K Amplifiers
• (2) Bluesound Nodes, including one dedicated to the subwoofers for on-the-fly bass adjustment
By moving from a 70V system to a direct-drive 8-ohm setup, the soundstage became deeper, more dynamic, and far more engaging. And with Coastal Source’s rugged, weatherproof design, future reliability is no longer a concern.
The result? A backyard system that finally lives up to the setting- and his expectations.
Lots of speakers, underwhelming impact. The original 70V system relied on frequent speaker placement, but still felt short on delivering full-bodied, immersive sound.
Traditional wiring, traditional headaches. The original system relied on in-field splices and standard wire connections- messy, time consuming (higher labor charge), and vulnerable to corrosion and failure in an outdoor environment.
While there wasn’t much visible water in the ground, it was enough to seep into the old subwoofer enclosure and cause repeated failures (and service visits… and warranty claims).
Chasing sound with quantity. With 70V landscape speakers like these Paradigm GO6s, its common to keep adding more and more speakers in an attempt to achieve fuller sound- often without truly getting there with sound depth and dynamics.
Out with the old. The original system served its time, but the client was ready for a serious upgrade in both performance and durability.
…In with the best. Swapping out the underferming 70V gear for a full Coastal Source system- built for high-end sound, outdoor durability, and long-term peace of mind.
Details matter. At Premier Sound & Illumination, we take pride in the little things, like clearly labeled, organized wiring. Its the kind of detail that may go unnoticed by some, but it’s what separates everyday installers from those truly passionate about their craft.
Big sound, elegant form. This 3-way bollard replaces multiple smaller satellites with one powerful, full-range solution designed specifically for outdoor performance.
A true outdoor subwoofer. No more water damage or dropouts- just clean, tight bass from a sub designed specifically for harsh outdoor environments. We typically install these with their own Bluesound node for complete control from the client’s phone- dial up or down according to mood.
Hidden in plain sight. The 18.0 subwoofer delivered powerful low frequencies without drawing attention to itself.
Form meets function. Tucked under a tree, the 10.0 3-way bollard looks right at home, yet fills the space with rich, full-range sound.
